About the Saline Agri Map
Netherlands Food Partnership (NFP) and Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) are partnering with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) to develop the Saline Agri Map. The Saline Agri Map (SAM) was developed based on the results of the SALAD (Saline AgricuLture for ADaptation) research project.
SALAD is a transcontinental, innovative research project in the field of food systems and climate. It addresses the research area of food security under climate change through saline agriculture, aligning vision, research and practice among European and African countries focusing on saline agriculture upscaling. SALAD employs fundamental and applied transdisciplinary (biophysical, social, cultural, agronomic, economic and environmental) research. SALAD focuses on promoting innovative technology deployment and improving climate resilience through saline agricultural practices.
One of SALAD's deliverables is to develop an overview and repository of saline agriculture initiatives with a focus on Europe and (Northern) Africa: the SALAD database. SAM allows an interactive exploration of projects included in this database. SAM will be updated in the future to expand the database's geographical scope following SALAD's methodology. Gain more insights with the analysis report on the initial batch of SAM's projects, accessible here.
SALAD is part of the ERA‐NET Cofund FOSC that has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 862555.
